HANDMADE
The Iris sari is a rare intersection of design, craftsmanship, and artistic courage.
Handwoven in 100% handspun Tussar silk, this sari is light, breathable, and has the signature texture and glow that only natural Tussar can offer. Across its surface, an original curvilinear Ikat design flows gracefully inspired by the organic form of the iris flower.
Unlike traditional Ikat, known for its geometric sharpness, this piece challenges the very boundaries of the technique. The body of the sari features flowing, curved motifs, created through the painstaking process of resist dye Ikat weaving executed directly on handspun Tussar silk, a feat that demands deep skill and collaboration between designer and artisan.
Designing and executing Ikat on Tussar is extremely rare.
The yarn is irregular, the dye control is difficult, and curved forms are almost unheard of in this technique. Yet here, the curves bloom with effortless grace the result of innovation, patience, and mastery.
This sari designed by Anupriya, co-founder and textile designer at Vani Vrtti. It is not adapted from archival patterns it is a fresh, contemporary expression of her evolving language as a designer. A language rooted in Indian textile heritage, but one that speaks of softness, structure, and movement.
Every inch of this sari is intentional. Every thread is a choice.
